Club Water Polo (Men’s)
About Us
Men’s Club Water Polo is a competitive club team that competes in the Atlantic Division of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). The team includes approximately 20 members with a wide range of experience, from players who have competed internationally to those who are brand new to the sport. The team practices in the Yates diving pool three times per week throughout the year. The official competitive season takes place in the fall, when we participate in CWPA tournaments, some of which require overnight travel. In the spring, the team attends one to two invitational tournaments hosted by other schools and continues to scrimmage with George Washington University throughout the year.
How to Join
The team does not hold tryouts for club membership. Joining is simple and open to anyone interested in participating. Undergraduate students should contact the club to be added to the mailing list, complete the required participation and concussion forms on CampusGroups, and then attend practice at McCarthy Pool in Yates Field House. All you need is a positive attitude and a swimsuit.
Time Commitment
Practices are typically held weekly during the fall semester at McCarthy Pool in Yates Field House, with current practice times on weeknights. Attendance is encouraged, but optional, to ensure anyone with an interest in water polo can participate. The team usually competes in tournaments, including one-day trips and two overnight trips to nearby universities.
Dues
Dues are $30 per semester per person, which covers tournament fees, transportation, lodging, and equipment.
Awards, Recognition, and Championships
Men’s Club Water Polo competes annually in the CWPA Atlantic Division regional tournament, typically held in late October or early November. The team has also captured CWPA Atlantic Division Championships in 2002, 2003, and 2005.
