Club Badminton
About Us
Georgetown University Club Badminton is a vibrant, tight-knit community with two key lanes. The competitive team represents Georgetown at intercollegiate tournaments (typically one per semester) and local scrimmages, while the open practices welcome recreational players who want to learn, improve, and enjoy the sport. The club typically field a core competitive roster of 10 to 12 athletes, with around 20 members attending regularly, building strong connections on and off the court.
How to Join
Join the club early in the semester by coming to our scheduled practice times. It is the best way to meet current members, get a feel for the club, and show interest. Tryouts are open to everyone, the executive board will observe play during early sessions and make membership decisions as needed. Undergraduate students of all levels are welcome, and the traveling competitive roster is selected internally based on skill, availability, and interest in competing. If you are not pursuing the competitive roster, you are encouraged to participate through the club’s regular open court sessions.
Time Commitment
The club meets twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Yates Field House. Practices begin at 8:30 PM and typically run for two hours. Sessions usually include a mix of structured footwork and hitting drills, followed by match play across men’s, women’s, and mixed singles and doubles. Members are expected to attend at least one practice per week to maintain active status.
Dues
Dues are $30 per semester per person. This covers tournament fees, transportation, lodging, and equipment.
